Welcome to Yarpole, nestling in rolling countryside in North Herefordshire, mid way between the market towns of Ludlow and Leominster.

Spring is coming, we are hopefully moving out of lockdown. Vaccinations are rolling out apace. We can start to enjoy our Parish all over again!

How Yarpole is tackling the coronavirus outbreak.

The roadmap out of lockdown, from the 12th April.

  • Non-essential retail will be able to reopen.

  • Prsonal care premises such as hairdressers and nail salons will be able to reopen.

  • Public buildings such as libraries and community centres will be able to reopen.

  • Outdoor hospitality venues will be able to reopen, with table service only.

  • Most outdoor attractions including zoos, theme parks, and drive-in performances (such as cinemas and concerts) will be able to reopen.

  • Some smaller outdoor events such as fetes, literary fairs, and fairgrounds will be able to take place.

  • indoor leisure and sports facilities will be able to reopen for individual exercise, or exercise with your household or support bubble

  • Self-contained accommodation will be able to open for overnight stays in England with your household or support bubble.

  • You should continue to minimise the amount that you travel where possible.
  • Care home residents will be able to nominate two named individuals for regular indoor visits (following a rapid lateral flow test).

For more detailed information from the Government website click on the link.

Yarpole Community Shop to re-introduce Community Project Funding.

In 2019, for financial reasons, this was not possible and in 2020, the Covid 19 pandemic precluded any meaningful receipt or approval of funding applications. This year, however, the shop is able to re-launch this initiative. The Management Committee are pleased to announce that £3000 will be made available for funding of Community Projects this year.

More information can be found by clicking on the Shop page.

Is it safe to wear a visor instead of a mask?

Although the guidance for England does not specifically mention visors/shields, the Department of Health and Social Care confirmed that they do not qualify as face coverings and can only be worn in addition to a mask but not instead of it. The Scottish, Welsh and Northern Ireland administrations explicitly state that visors/shields are not considered face coverings as they do not provide adequate protection alone. Modelling in Japan found that plastic face shields are almost totally ineffective at trapping respiratory aerosols.

 Facemask

How to make your own facemask. Follow these simple instructions.

You can download and print off the pattern and instructions.

The Walking Group has published self guided walks for people to enjoy. These are available via this link.

Please look out for neighbours.

Finally we have composed a list of FREE on-line resources for people to access from home. Follow the link FREE 0N-LINE RESOURCES.

There has been a community recorded here for over 2000 years. The village is mentioned in the Doomsday Book. The Anglo-Saxon meaning of Yarpole (Iarpol or Yarpol) is fish pool or dam for containing fish. The original fish pool has long since been abandoned, the remains of the dam wall are still visible.

Yarpole still retains its red telephone kiosk, its pub, The Bell at Yarpole and has an award winning community run village shop and Post Office operating from within the Parish Church, St Leonard's. The first full time shop in a church.

The Parish has a population of approximately 700 and comprises of the villages of Bircher and Lucton, the community on Bircher Common and the hamlet of Bicton.
